Welcome to Reading Blue Coat's Virtual Open event. I am sorry we are not able to welcome you in person but hope that your virtual visit will capture some of what Blue Coat may have to offer your son or daughter. Whilst we celebrate individuality, there is an inherent ethos that binds our community. The spirit of adventure, a sense of compassion, and a down-to-earth outlook are the characteristics that make us who we are. Thank you for joining us.

Frequently asked questions

Find quick answer to things we get asked a lot

1How many students apply for 11+?
We normally expect in the region of 300+ applications
2How many girls are in the Sixth Form?
We have over 80 girls in our Sixth Form which represents about one third of our Sixth Form student body
3Does my son have to be really clever to get in to Blue Coat?
Although we are an academically selective school, we do not select students exclusively on their test scores. We want students who will fully engage in both our academic and co-curricular programmes.
4What is the average class size?
This varies depending on the section of the school and the subject. Most Year 7 classes will be around 24, with smaller classes for practical subjects like DT. Most GCSE classes average 18-20. Sixth Form class sizes vary between 4-14.
